2009 sees the legendary Motown label turn 50. By way of celebration they’re re-releasing all of their 7" singles released between 1959-1972 – the ‘Detroit era’. The Complete Motown Singles series – is now up to Vol. 10 – 1970, and features such legends as Smokey Robinson, The Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder…
All tracks were transferred from the original master tapes, though for two particular tracks this would prove tricky, as the original tapes were gone.
Luckily, uber-Motown fan LG Nilsson has all of the Motown singles and rare promos in his collection, so the two missing songs – Expressin' My Love by Stu Gardiner and My Baby's Love by Arthur Adams – were of course found and digitally transferred from vinyl before being digitally cleaned up and re-mastered by former SAE student Johan Eckerblad at Mintelligence, Stockholm.
Located in peaceful surroundings just outside central Stockholm, Mintelligence offers professional solutions for sound recordings, as well as mixing and mastering in its own recording and postproduction studio. Productions that have passed the D/A converters so far cover various radio productions for Swedish Radio P1/P4, Nintendo Gameboy Kraftwerk tributes and dub-club-freeform-jazz-sessions, amongst others.
