My name is Gabriel Bagley but for music I go by my first & middle name, so Gabriel Matthew. I’m from England and Ecuador and I studied the BA (Hons) Audio Production Degree at SAE.
I got my degree last year, and my hobby is pretty much just making music and a bit of skateboarding sometimes too.
My biggest inspirations for music are deadmau5, Josh Butler, CamelPhat, Biscits. I got into making music when I was a kid probably about 10 years old playing around on GarageBand for a few years until I got Ableton because that’s what I saw deadmau5 used. My advice would just be to keep making music all the time because it’s bound to get better, but don’t be afraid just to spam tutorials cos there is so much knowledge on YouTube alone to improve your production, and your own sound will eventually come through.
I’ve always been into producing music so naturally studying audio production sounded great, and its breadth attracted me to the course as well, as it’s for film and recording and mixing rather than just how to make an electronic banger. I have a family friend who went to SAE in Glasgow I think, so that’s how I found out about SAE and decided to apply. I enjoyed most just being able to apply the knowledge from the classes to our practical projects, for me specifically it was getting to mix a short film which I scored and designed sound for, in 5.1 surround. To someone considering applying I would say go into it with an open mind, at least in my audio course there are lots that I didn’t know I would get into and enjoy, specifically film post-production for me I fell in love with.
