Take your first step towards a successful career in film and television by exploring film studies at any of our SAE UK campuses – London, Liverpool, Leeds, Leamington Spa and Glasgow.
Our BA/BSc (Hons) Film Production degree lets you immerse yourself in both the theory and practice of cinema from day one, exploring how films are made and interpreted, and teaching you essential industry technical skills like direction, editing and mastering.
With our 2-year (accelerated) film studies degree, you’ll cover every area of the film industry – from scriptwriting, pitching and film funding, to production, post-production, marketing, and distribution.
Taught by leading film industry professionals in world-class facilities, you’ll get to grips with the latest industry software from brands such as Avid (Media Composer), Adobe (Premiere Pro) and Blackmagic Design (DaVinci Resolve), plus camera hardware from Sony, Canon, Panasonic and ARRI, lighting equipment from Kino Flo.
As you engage in your film studies course theory, you’ll cover a wide range of cinema styles and genres – from British and Hollywood productions to world cinema, documentaries and media for streaming services. You’ll explore critical approaches to film studies, examining how film shapes – and is shaped by – the world around us, from political, cultural, historic and social perspectives.
Specialist modules allow you to tailor your film studies to your interests and career goals, while hands-on projects like making short films and videos enhance your creative skills. You’ll collaborate creatively with your fellow film studies classmates as you fulfill a variety of filmmaking industry roles across projects, such as SAE Studios. Plus, you’ll take part in creative projects with students from other SAE disciplines, such as audio production, visual effects, animation and content creation.
There will also be regular opportunities to build real-world industry connections and gain on-set experience working on productions. Your final module will see you take part in a film production Major Project of your choosing.
At the end of your time with SAE, you’ll graduate with a rich understanding of film’s past, present and future – and the technical skills needed to launch a long and successful film industry career.
