SAE Web Design and Development student Hamed (Aitch) Musari has been keeping busy alongside his studies, working on a number of exciting endeavours.
His projects as a web developer and UX/UI designer based in London include Stick to It, a productivity and collaborative all-in-one workspace, alongside Financiv, a personal finance platform.
Here, we quizzed Aitch on his work, experiences and how his time at SAE has shaped him. If you’d like to join our Web Design and Development degree, then get in touch with our team now.
How did your passion for Web Development start?
It started almost a decade ago, I started dipping my toes into this world with Python and then HTML CSS, but nothing crazy.
I’m pretty sure this was when my dad bought me a laptop so I could do my school stuff. Up until then, I had to go to the library or an internet cafe and obviously, you couldn’t install any programs on them.
After that, I was so obsessed with the tech world and I think that’s when I knew I wanted to become part of this industry. I mean the fact that you can build a small program that could make other people’s lives easier without a huge upfront cost still blows my mind to this day. By making it accessible through the internet, anyone from anywhere can have access to it.
What led you to study at SAE? How have you found the experience so far?
It’s funny because a few years ago I would have never thought of going to uni, because school just wasn’t for me and I was barely making the grades.
But after knowing what I wanted, I started studying for my career in tech and everything changed. I always made sure I was putting all my effort in because that’s how much I wanted it. After I moved from Spain to the UK I had to continue what I started and SAE was just the right option for me then. I liked the fact that you are rewarded for actually applying what you learned in your projects rather than just basing everything on exams. And my experience has been pretty good!
What have been the most important things you’ve learned on the course?
I will say learning how to structure, knowing how to properly plan and develop a project, how to work with others in a group and gaining a deeper understanding of workflow.
How does the course support your ambitions?
This course has allowed me to bring my ideas to life. I have had so many cool website ideas but I never knew where to start until now.
So I’m happy they can now move past my front cortex to a screen where everyone can see them.
How have your tutors helped you and shared their professional experience in class?
All our tutors have been great. What I like the most is the freedom they give us when it comes to selecting the tools we want to work with and not locking us into one single technology stack. That has allowed me to learn a lot in a short period of time. And whenever I get stuck they are always there to help us.
What’s been your favourite part/module on the course so far?
I will say this latest module because I feel more confident about being a web developer. I have been able to gather everything I have learned from the previous modules to create one of my dream websites. This is a personal finance web application where you not only learn about financial literacy with blogs and guides but you also have multiple tools to help you manage your finances. This includes a budget tracker, net worth forecasting, investment and saving planners and so much more.
I’m so happy seeing it day by day coming to life and I’m very excited to share it with others and hopefully help them manage their finances.
Have there been any moments of true inspiration during the course?
Without a doubt I will say the previous module when my group partner and I proposed to develop an SAAS, productivity and collaborative all-in-one workspace where you can organise, manage and track to-dos, notes and more with other users by inviting them to a workspace and administrating their roles. The website is called Stick To It you want to give it a shot.
After developing Stick To It, I felt like it was the right time to start developing Financiv, my personal finance web application start-up.
Can you talk about examples of collaboration with other students (whether on your course or another one?)
The collaboration with the Audio Production students and a direct connection with the R&B/jazz band, Xambi, was great.
I was able to build and work in a professional web development workflow by creating a website for the band. This made the group appear more professional and showed industry experts that they take their music seriously. It’s also a space they own and control, making it the best way to build authentic relationships with their fans.
Have you had any challenges with your studies? And how you overcome them?
At the beginning of the research for my major project proposal where I knew the topic I wanted to talk about, I found it difficult to zoom in on the objective.
With the help of my tutor I was able to have a cohesive path of where I wanted to take my research.
Have you any advice for anyone considering the Web Development course at SAE?
It might feel quite intense and fast phase if you come with zero experience, but the lecturers are always there to help you. One of the benefits of SAE London is the fact that we are divided into smaller groups which allows for more one-to-one discussions with your lecturers and classmates. If you really love creating web applications, SAE is the best place for you.
What is next for you?
Continue working on my startup Financiv. I am very excited about this project a lot of cool ideas in mind and can’t wait to work with others to take it to the next level by helping others and see where it goes.
