Interview | Pomona

Pomona Band SAE

SAE is delighted to be hosting a stage at this year’s Sound City event in Liverpool.

Alternative rock band Pomona will be joining BL!SS, Red Coven, and the Drivers Club to perform at the 2024 festival.

Earlier in the year, the post-punk band supported Silverstone at the Zanzibar in Liverpool and will return to the live stage this weekend.

We caught up with Pomona to find out more about the band and their connection with SAE.

Get to know them in our interview ahead of this year’s Sound City festival on 4th and 5th May

How did the band get together?

Pomona came about a couple years ago in Manchester with the guitarist and vocalist Benji.

We recorded a couple of tracks in the SAE studios with Chris Tadd and Dan Kellet.

Since then the band has been reshuffled as Benji introduced Beau (drums) who were friends through university and Abbie (bass), an Audio Production student from SAE in November 2023.

How are you connected with SAE?

Currently we are all students with Abbie studying Audio Production (SAE), Beau studying Music Performance (LIPA) and Benji studying Music Production (LIPA).

What does playing at Sound City mean to you?

We are super excited to play Sound City as we know how much it means to the city and it is a pretty big deal for upcoming artists like us.

How have you been preparing for the show?

To prepare for it, we have been doing about eight hours of practice a week.

How would you describe Liverpool’s music scene?

Currently the Liverpool music scene is booming.

We are always in awe of the amount of talent that comes out of this tiny city.

What are your top venues in the city?

Some of our favourite venues include the Arts Club, Zanzibar and O2 Academy and the crowds have always been full of energy.

What are you up to next?

Currently, we are hard at work in the studio recording and getting ready for a release. However, as you will see from Sound City, the band really shines when it comes to a live performance.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about navigating the music industry?

Some advice that we have been told and keep with us regularly is “have fun and not take yourself too seriously”. Also, “you have to be able to adapt and make quick decisions when things inevitably go wrong”!
