SAE Leamington Spa has partnered with the Kenilworth Centre on providing a five-week intensive course on how to make a podcast.
The initiative was led by Laura Wheale, SAE’s Campus Recruitment Officer and Sarah McCaffrey, Joint Centre Manager at the Kenilworth Centre.
A total of five podcasts were created over the course with participants, the majority of which were under 16, focussing on their experiences of growing up, football and working in childcare.
Commenting, Laura said: “Each week, attendees were given an introduction to podcasting, how to plan a podcast, how to edit and techniques of podcasting. During the workshops, everyone slowly decided what they wanted to make a podcast about, did relevant research, and constructed a script.”
“They were then able to record their podcasts using Abbey End Studio’s equipment with our team showing attendees how they can record podcasts.”
Sarah is a voice actor with experience in podcasting. She supported participants on using the Abbey End studio equipment alongside vocal and speaking techniques.
Laura’s role was to help facilitate the process with participants and enhance their creative process.
Listen to feedback from the students on the course as well as an overview of the workshops:
The podcast workshops aimed to showcase some of the topics and practical lessons covered on our SAE degrees, with our team utilised the expertise from our course curriculum to craft the sessions.
Laura said: “Attendees have walked away with a new perspective on the podcast industry, and its impact. Personally, I feel that this workshop has opened up creative opportunities for younger people, and gave them something exciting to create. With the skills they have learned, there are almost infinite possibilities to use them in different ways.”
