SAE’s 2024 End of Year Highlights

UK SAE alumnus Aitch wins tech prize at SAE Awards 2024.

2024 has been a fantastic year for SAE’s community with students, tutors and alumni all achieving great things in their respective sectors. 

From short films to start-up ideas via record labels, there has been plenty going on over the last 12 months.

In The Room

SAE In The Room

SAE Film Production students had the opportunity to work on In The Room, a forthcoming short film funded by Creative Scotland and featuring Games of Thrones actor Kate Dickie. 

Directed and co-written by SAE Film Production Lecturer Paul Barrie, the short narrative film follows a protagonist who goes to a call-back audition for a role, only to be confronted by the unexpected return of a character from her past. 

Student Brett Watt said: “My time on In The Room was very informative. Everyone on the project was super nice and helpful, and didn’t speak down or make you feel bad for not knowing something.”

Callum Haydon on networking 

Callum Haydon SAE

Callum Haydon is one of our Game Art and Animation students and recently attended a games talk in Leamington, managing to spark up a conversation with Phil Warner, CEO of Mediatonic, which resides under Epic Games.

We caught up with Callum to discuss what led him to study at SAE, his experiences on the course so far alongside his essential networking tips for anyone looking to get started in the industry.

Steph Marziano and industry guests 

Producer Steph Marziano hosts masterclass at SAE

Industry guests across SAE’s courses are a regular part of our programmes.

This last 12 months has seen some of the creative industries leading professionals visit our students to share their knowledge and expertise. 

Our Audio Production students were treated to a masterclass from Steph where she explored her work with Phoebe Green on the track, Embarrass Me. We pulled together some essential tips from the session for a blog.

SAE Studios

SAE Studios is a new initiative launched by Film Production Tutors Dez Gray and Josh Oliver to help create career opportunities and forge industry connections for SAE students, alumni and staff.

Non Compos Mentis is the first film project to come from SAE Studios, a film written by SAE Students Alana Mae-Flynn and Eithne O’Sullivan about Charlie, a caregiver for a dementia sufferer, who struggles with his own self care.

The Dementia Choir (led by Vicky McClure) came to our London Bankstock campus to record an original track for the project.

SAE Awards 2024 

SAE alumnus Aitch wins Tech Award at SAE Awards.

SAE Web Design and Development student Hamed (Aitch) Musari won the Best Web/Tech Project at the 2024 SAE Awards.

This annual event celebrates outstanding achievements in media production across SAE’s global network, and Aitch’s dedication and creativity stood out among many exceptional submissions from alumni worldwide.

Aitch’s prize was for an SaaS platform called Stick To It, a productivity and collaborative all-in-one workspace where users can organise, manage and track to-dos, notes and more.

Uni Jam 

Students taking part in the Uni Jam.

SAE Game Development students joined peers from different institutions to gain invaluable collaborative experiences as part of the Uni Jam event.

SAE students took part alongside students from Goldsmith’s, ICMP, ACM, and the London College of Music.

Uni Jam aims to bring together creatives from different universities to make and collaborate in gaming events.

Yorya Leon on content creation

Content Creation and Online Marketing student Yorya Leon discusses her experiences studying with SAE.

SAE Content Creation and Online Marketing student Yorya Leon has had an exciting journey at our London campus, building on a passion for the online world that ignited as a teenager.

During the course, Yorya immersed herself in SAE’s community and took on different challenges, including working as part of the SAE Studios project alongside Aditya Sanjeev.

IMSTA FESTA 

Andrew Scheps gives talk as part of IMSTA Fest at SAE.

As part of IMSTA Festa held at our London campus, Andrew Scheps joined a number of industry experts, including Jonny Amos and Jake Gosling, to share his insights and advice on making music and navigating the industry.

Andrew’s career in music production is unrivalled, winning Grammy Awards for his work on a diverse range of records including the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Stadium Arcadium and Adele’s 21.

His talk explored the world of immersive audio alongside his advice for aspiring engineers and producers and we compiled some of his essential insights from the talk.
